Hope this lovely September day is just what you need today. We have survived the Back to School adventure and are gearing up for Family Weekend at Bucknell starting Friday.
Downtown is full of fabulous new clothes, good food, kitcheny stuff, running gear, bicycle needs, and of course all your art needs. There are galleries galore and we just hung a new gallery wall of framed Cavallini papers- it is so much fun. And you should see the giant black and white movie poster….Check out our Facebook page to see this.
We are trying to finalize our fall workshop schedule. Here is what we have so far. For you Lynne Yancha watercolor workshop students- she will be here
Friday September 30
Friday October 14
Saturday October 22
Her workshops are from 10-4 – cost $60 per day. She is a highly skilled and renowned painter who really can bring out the best in people. You will enjoy the class most if you have some watercolor knowledge. Bring you own supplies, and an idea of something you would like to work on. There will be a break for lunch so you can bring something or go out. Artists love her classes. Good artsy karma.
Then in November on the 11 and 12. Barbara Baker will be teaching two classes. On the 11 is the adults – “Don’t play with sticks- unless it is art sticks “ and on the 12 the kids class. It will involve paper mache critters and more. Info to follow.
Call 570-523-7911 to register for any of the above.
October will be the beginning of our 27th year. We will be having some special things going on, sales, prizes, giveaways and cake. Randy and I are going to figure this out soon.
Things are always evolving here so bunches of items have moved to the sale department. Trot on over to Studio B and check it out. At this moment there are even some sets of colored pencils there. 🙂
On the way is a HUGE order of puzzles by Pomegranate. These continue to be a favorite of our regular customers and our travelers. They should be here any day now.
We continue our Wednesday Live Love Lewisburg special. Our September special is 15% off puzzles and our children’s department. October’s will be determined shortly.
Hot items continue to be the Koi Pocket Watercolor sets, watercolor postcards, our new line of greeting cards by Good Paper which are made by those in need, all our greeting cards by Artists to Watch, Prismacolor art markers, chisel and brush – we are really seeing a resurge in these, our paper mache critters, and of course coloring books and colored pencils. I think people really appreciate that we have open stock of so many pencils and markers. T
hat is all I have for you today. Again we appreciate each and every one of you. You are what makes this so much fun.
Cheers, Kathy and Team Brushstrokes

Just want to pop out a quick update. Lots going on in town and lots of moving parts at the shop.
Big Independence Parade is today 6/25/16. Here is a link to all the happenings.
Secondly, coming up on July 8 is the Sidewalk Chalk Festival. Register in front of Brushstrokes beginning at 5pm. They have added a People’s Choice voting event on Saturday. Check it out here.
We will be having some workshops coming up. The next email will have the details.
We are still short staffed here through the next 3 or 4 weeks- hence the lack of classes.
All is good just lots of moving parts this summer.
New things in – Motawi tile order including 4 styles of necklaces, Imagine and Eclectic Earth earrings and necklaces, open stock of Koh-i-noor woodless colored pencils, open stock of LePens and a lovely line of British journals- hardcover, softcover, slim and pocket. The designs are well… just so British!!
Many questions coming about bullet journaling. We are researching this for an upcoming class or two. I have looked it up and info is all over the place. Have seen a few in person and what a wonderful way of doing your own planner journal sort of. Will keep you posted. We have some lovely dot and grid journals for anyone that wants to jump in.
Also the Wednesday specials thru town continue. Ours for June is 15% off greeting cards – spend $10 on cards and pick out a LePen for free. 🙂 We are starting to see more people on Wednesday. Yay!! Remember it is Farmer’s Market day and then through the summer there is Music in the Park that night – here is a link to what is scheduled for the music.
That’s it – off to price a new order. Hope to see you.
Lots of things going on- pro’s and con’s.
Pro’s- town seems to be emerging from a bit of a funk. Having students, CVS, and the State Store leaving put the traffic off for awhile. Seems to be getting back to a more normal slowly but surely. The merchants gathered – did some brainstorming- and have come up with a few things.
Our Wednesday promotions – Live, Love, Lewisburg- Let’s Go Downtown!!- This has been growing Wednesday business on a slow but steady course. Most of the stores and some of the restaurants have Wednesday specials. This coincides with Farmers Market goers and the Music in the Park program which started back last night. Due to crazy life this June we are having the same promotion for all Wednesdays. 15% off all greeting cards- spend $10 on greeting cards and get a complementary LePen – choice of color. This went over well yesterday 🙂 We had quite the large shipments of new cool cards come in the last two weeks so our racks are full of treasures.
Sidewalk sales for June will be this Friday and Saturday – 10 and 11. We will have lots of stuff from art supplies, gifts, greeting cards, mats, yard sale kind of things and oodles and oodles of frames. The weather forecast is good for Friday and so so for Saturday. First come – cash preferred 🙂 Will start putting stuff out around 9 each morning. I will post pictures on Facebook in the morning once we get set up. Shops that I know are doing sidewalk sales- Gingerbread House, Retrah, The Mercantile, Wilson Ross, Betty’s, Faustina’s, Dwellings and Blackdog Jewelers. Probably more but that is who I know…..
We have taken to rearranging parts of the shop and finding better locations for some things. We stepped up and expanded our Cavallini paper line and brought in their larger hanging school maps. There is now a poster hanging kit to accompany them if needed. We have already sold out of the vertical one but more are on the way. Great easy way to hang some cool art and map posters.
The coloring books are still making people happy. We just got on in one on A Million Cats that is so fun. Just letting you know that we have lots of cool and unique choices. I know – the whole world jumped on this – even the grocery stores. But hey – that is good for art and people having fun.
Pen and ink land seems to be one of the current trends right now. We have lots to look at in that department.
Con’s- We have been really short staffed the last two months, and will be even more so the rest of June. Hopefully we will be back to full speed by mid July. This has kept us from scheduling any classes for June but we have at least 3 new ones coming later this summer, along with some Lynne Yancha workshops and a few ideas. Will try to have it all lined up with a schedule by the end of June.
The Pennsylvania Heritage conference was just held in Lewisburg this Monday thru Wednesday. They loved our town and our store seemed to make many of them quite happy. We had so much praise we were bursting at the seams. 🙂
Happy summer. Lots of opportunities for doing a little watercolor journaling and we are checking into the hot new bullet journaling for all you highly organized people out there. Looks so interesting. May even have a class on this – working on it. I will put a link to this on our Facebook page later this week.
Cheers, Kathy and Team Brushstrokes
Hello May- it is good to see you 🙂
It has been a busy spring and people are needing their art supplies. Classes have gone well and new stock keeps finding its way in the door.
The Arts Festival was so fun and we were blessed with beautiful weather. People seemed to really like our town and hopefully will come again.
I took Joann Landis’ s Fashion Sketch/Design class and highly recommend it. She is hoping to offer a 3 week – once a week course during the summer so that more can be taught and developed. Even if you aren’t into fashion – the drawing of gestures and such was very liberating. It really makes you see things differently which can help with composition and design of your paintings. Will let you know when we get it scheduled.
In the queue- Barbara Baker will be doing a kids class and an adult class on June 11. More info to follow. Jane Albin will be doing a class on dip pens and watercolor. Trying to line up a portraiture class and basic drawing. Feel free to let me know what you might be interested in.
We have the last of our two scheduled classes coming up. Lynne Yancha will be here on Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 14. Watercolor workshop – 10 – 4- $60 – you bring your own supplies. You would not believe the paintings that have come out of these classes. Even a prize winner at at the Packwood House show – congrats Suzanne Murdza! We have room on both days and we would love to have you join us. Just give us a call at 570-523-7911.
The Merchants on Market have been meeting and we are doing Wednesday promotions – Live, Love, Lewisburg – Let’s Go Downtown. Many are offering special deals, and more are adding each week. For example ours today is 15% off any sketchbooks, journals, or pads of paper. A small complementary gift is included with each purchase. It has been lots of fun. We have handed out carnations, small plants, little pads of paper – just our way of thanking people for shopping downtown. We changed our featured item/department every week. We post it on Facebook and Instagram.
We carry the Daniel Smith watercolors. The distributor of this company does a really good job of promoting artists and art. Here is a link to our FB page and the artist they talked about this week. Scroll down and it should show up. Fabulous colors!
Two new windows up by Katie- “Like Toteally” – our play on words featuring totes by Royal Brush, Artbird, and Ecototes. Very fun. Also she did one yesterday on Papers including our ever growing Cavallini decorative papers, greeting cards, and coloring books. A little graduation vignette is on the side. Again – cool and fun.
What is hot – *the pastel pencils by Carbothello – these are one of Randy’s favorites, people try them and then come back for more colors. Apparently jus the right touch of softness and coverage -** Journals and watercolors – **** origami (huge new selection)- **** Melissa and Doug -( really huge new shipment) and *****prismacolor art pencils – sets and individuals – bit hard to restock these days but we are pretty good at the moment. I even found 3 sets of the big ones – the 150”s.- woot woot.
That is all for now. And yes we have an excellent selection of coloring books for Mother’s Day 🙂
Thanks, Kathy and Team Brushstrokes.
There will be town wide sidewalk sales on the second weekend – Friday/Saturday of May, June , July and August. A few such as us will not be doing May due to some conflicts. Should be fun and always great bargains. 🙂

Saturday – March 19. Lynne Yancha returns for one of her lovely workshops. She is a wonderful instructor and her classes are always a fun bonding experience. Come meet these artists, see what makes them tick, and learn what they find works well for them. Here is pic from the event-
Saturday April 30- Joann will return for round 2 of this ….Okay – have your ever watched Project Runway and wished you could sketch like the designers do? Well then, come join Joann Landis for her Fashion Design and Sketch workshop. Joann is also a professional artist and has a wonderful background in fashion. Usually she teaches locally with a 6 week class but we talked her into doing a workshop where you could see how to start in this interesting field. Knowing a little about how to draw fashion could help you with people in your paintings. 1-3 – cost $25 and you will need to purchase your art markers – which we have – should cost you just under $25. Joann said if you took the first one she would steer you to more advanced projects and the markers will be different this time. Not kidding – if you draw at all you will find some really good ideas in this class.
****Lynne will return for 4 more watercolor workshops -Friday April 8, Saturday April16, Friday May 6, and Saturday May14. These fill up quickly – small classes of 6 so check your calendars.
All if our classes must be paid for at the time of registration. We do this so that people are less likely to cancel and our artist instructors get paid for their time. If you must cancel then half goes to the instructor and the rest you may redeem in art supplies. It is the only way we have found that keeps people on track 🙂
The Lewisburg Arts Festival is April 23 this year. There will be the art show at the Packwood House, the photography show, a plein air event on Sunday and lots and lots of things going on. Here is the link to that for you to check out.

More puzzles and coloring books are showing up soon. What is hot? Lettering stencils, brush pens of any type- something going on in Pinterest that is driving these, watercolor anything, and of course colored pencils- really a bit tough to get the sets in but we are doing our best!!
That is it for now. Let us know if we can help in anyway. We are always happy to order things in for you.
Kathy and Team Brushstrokes- Deb, Laurie, Jane, Sylvia, Barbara, Katie, and of course Randy and George!!
