Saturday, July 30 “Painting Like Monet” with Barbara Baker

In this class, we will learn about Monet and his importance to the history of painting through his water lily paintings. Then we will paint our own water lilies using oil pastels and watercolors. All materials included and will go home with the student artist. $35.00
Saturday, July 30 “Working on Tinted Paper with Colored Pencils” with Barbara Baker
Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

In this class I will teach about using colored pencils on tinted paper. We will work on grey tinted paper using a limited palette of gray colored pencils. All materials included and will go home with you. Cost $40.

Saturday, August 5, Sketching with watercolor with Jane Albin.
Limit 8- Open to adults and older teens
You will learn basic urban sketching using a portable watercolor setup. Beginners welcome – all supplies included and go home with you.

Saturday – March 19. Lynne Yancha returns for one of her lovely workshops. She is a wonderful instructor and her classes are always a fun bonding experience. The work that the attendees do always astounds us as they seem to make sure great strides. Love going in that class halfway thru to see where they are in their paintings. “Water-Doodle a Spring Card!”
May Day, Mother’s Day, and lots of Birthdays are coming.
You will be creating a floral themed card in this workshop with Jane Albin.
We start by learning a few new doodles, add some simple watercolor techniques, and end up with your own personal greeting card.
All materials are included. No experience necessary.

Randy and Jane did quite an interesting presentation. We have decided to repeat it. This is a free event with loads of info, things to play with, a few freebies, and a discount. Woot- Woot. We call this the “Randy and Jane Show”. Come meet these artists, see what makes them tick, and learn what they find works well for them. We would like to know if you are coming if possible but feel free to come even if you haven’t let us know. When – Saturday – April 2 from 1:30 to 3 ish!!

Saturday April 30- Joann will return for round 2 of this ….Okay – have your ever watched Project Runway and wished you could sketch like the designers do? Well then, come join Joann Landis for her Fashion Design and Sketch workshop. Joann is also a professional artist and has a wonderful background in fashion. Usually she teaches locally with a 6 week class but we talked her into doing a workshop where you could see how to start in this interesting field. Knowing a little about how to draw fashion could help you with people in your paintings. 1-3 – cost $25 and you will need to purchase your art markers – which we have – should cost you just under $25. Joann said if you took the first one she would steer you to more advanced projects and the markers will be different this time. Not kidding – if you draw at all you will find some really good ideas in this class.
****Lynne will return for 4 more watercolor workshops –Friday April 8, Saturday April16, Friday May 6, and Saturday May14. These fill up quickly – small classes of 6 so check your calendars.
All if our classes must be paid for at the time of registration. We do this so that people are less likely to cancel and our artist instructors get paid for their time. If you must cancel then half goes to the instructor and the rest you may redeem in art supplies. It is the only way we have found that keeps people on track 🙂

March 5, 2016 “Let’s draw with colored pencils for kids”

March 12, 2016 “Learn Colored Pencil Blending techniques with Secret Garden Artist Edition Coloring Book”
Time: 10:00am – 12:00
Open to adults and older teens- Instructor Barbara Baker
In this class Barbara will teach a variety of blending techniques with colored pencils by using Secret Garden Artist Edition coloring book. Each student will get to choose a page from the Secret Garden to color. We will have an assortment of colored pencils available to try. After teaching the blending techniques, you will get to try them on your coloring book page. Bring some paper towels and tissues. This will have all kinds of things to try you might not expect. Cost $40- you will go home with goodies.

Mediative Seasonal Doodling with Jane Albin- Sat. 11/7/15- 10-12 – $35 Ring in the holidays while learning cool doodling tips from our wonderful Jane Albin. Meditative seasonal doodles a la Jane style.You will doodle ornaments and snowflakes- and create some great Holiday cards. Prepayment and registration required. All supplies are included and you will take your pens home with you !! Coolness guaranteed. Age 14 and up.
Then we are happy to present on Saturday – November 14- 1-3 – Joanne Landis will teach a workshop on Fashion Design. We are very happy to have Joanne bring this to Brushstrokes. She is well known throughout the area for her lovely paintings and her sense of style. She has a background in fashion and has offered to come for a two hour workshop.( She usually teaches classes that are 6 weeks long – and also teach with Bill – the Bucknell lifetime learning program.) You will be able to use what you learn in your paintings. The class is $25 and you will need to purchase about $22 worth of markers. Age 14 and up.

Doodle and Fold: The Box as Art. …..Saturday, July 11, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Create boxes to hold secrets, to enclose gifts, or to display as objets d’arte. After doodling on cardstock, with a few folds and snips, we will form two boxes: a square and a rectangle as pretty or whimsical on the inside as on the outside. Once you learn the technique, you will be able to make these boxes in a variety of sizes. Paper and pens are included. Tools will be available, but if you wish to bring your own, you will need a pencil, ruler or straightedge, scissors, X-Acto knife or other tool for scoring paper.
Age 16 and up – minimum 4 – maximum 10- cost $20. Instructor Pat Bontinen. We have seen these and the possibilities are well pretty cool!!
Watersoluble Pencil workshop – ie watercolor in pencil form!! Saturday – July 18 from 1:00 to 4:00. Instructor Barbara Baker- newest member of Team Brushstrokes !
This will include three wet-on-dry techniques, two wet-on-wet techniques, how to combine with traditional CP, types of papers to use, and some tricks with natural sponges. The cost of the workshop will include some supplies but those who attend will need to bring a few supplies.
Here is the list of supplies that will be supplied and they will go home with you 🙂 1 box Royal Langnickel Watercolor Pencil Art Set- 1 small natural sponge- small sheets of various papers about 5″ x 7″ – 1 sheet hot press watercolor paper, 1 sheet cold press watercolor paper, 1 sheet Stonehenge. You will need to bring a small set of traditional colored pencils like Prismacolor, Lyra Rembrandt, Faber-Castell. It doesn’t have to be a lot a of pencils 3 – 4 is enough – a pencil sharpener – a white eraser and scotch tape.
Age 16 and up – minimum 4 maximum 10 – cost $45.00.
A Make and Take– new to us. Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 to 12:00.
Come join Laurie Knight as she shows you the wonders of alcohol ink. She will show you how it mixes and you will paint on a tile. Maybe even two – or some Yupo. We are just going to see where this takes us. Everything is supplied and this is just plain ole creative fun. Cost $15.

2.Want to have some fun? Come join Jane for our first ever “Paper Podging” class. Yep – we think we made up that word. 4. CAPTURING COLOR – A Color Theory Workshop with Cindy Dozpat- May 16 from 11 to 3:30 – fee $45- list of supplies to bring – the rest is provided 🙂 Color – it’s so important…and so challenging! In this fun, hands-on workshop, we’ll focus on three aspects of color: the families, value, and intensity. With just a few tubes of paint, together we’re going to create dozens of colors. With the goal of improving our paintings, we’ll also explore how to control color’s intensity, why value is so important and effective, and how to use a color wheel. ****What to bring***** Water container Average-sized synthetic brushes (2); they usually only use one, but it would be good to have an extra one along. Brights are best, but rounds or flats are okay, too. A roll of paper towels Six to eight Styrofoam or grease-resistant white paper plates to serve as palettes An apron or smock A pen A bag lunch with yummies 🙂 Brushstrokes will provide the paint (a quality acrylic), the gray scale, a color wheel, and a palette knife which are yours to keep. January 31- Seasonal doodling with Jane Albin – “Hearts and Clovers ” .10- 12 – cost $30- all supplies included. These are always a hit with much laughter!!
February 13 and or 14- Pastel passions with Susan Nicholas Gephart. 10-4 – come one or both days. $60 per day. You bring all your pastels and supplies and be prepared to get creative. She will show you the wonders of Sennelier pastels. This will be our 4th year of Susan returning for this very popular workshop.
February 21 – Winter Nature Journaling with Carmen Taggart. 1-3 – cost $30- all supplies are included. Always a great experience in Studio B with lots of artistic camaraderie .
March 13 and or 14- Oil Painting with Susan Nicholas Gephart. 10-4 – one or both days – $60 per day. This is a fabulous opportunity to delve into oil painting whether a beginner or serious painter. Learn about Gamblin paints – a US company with great products – along with some free samples. You will need your own supplies, paints, brushes, canvases,etc.
